Verses of Encouragement

As believers journey through the highs and lows of life, the Bible stands as a reservoir of strength, wisdom, and comfort. In moments of adversity, it serves as a beacon of hope, offering solace and guidance to those who seek it. With this in mind, we surveyed the My Reader Rewards Club. As part of an activity, participants were given the opportunity to share Bible verses that they found particularly uplifting when confronted with obstacles, whether they were present struggles or challenges of the past. This is a selection of those verses, drawn from both the Old and New Testaments, to inspire, uplift, and sustain in times of trial.

Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

Philippians 4:6-7

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
    do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
    and he will show you which path to take.

Romans 8:28

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

James 1:2-4

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Isaiah 43:1-2

But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
    O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
    I have called you by name; you are mine.
When you go through deep waters,
    I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
    you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
    you will not be burned up;
    the flames will not consume you."

2 Chronicles 20:15-17

He said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow, march out against them. You will find them coming up through the ascent of Ziz at the end of the valley that opens into the wilderness of Jeruel. But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!”

Psalm 56:3

But when I am afraid,
    I will put my trust in you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

"So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Habakkuk 3:19

The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
    He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
    able to tread upon the heights.
