Scripture Union began in Islington, London, during the summer of 1867 when Josiah Spiers held a meeting where he shared the Good News about Jesus with 15 children. Fast forward 150 years, and those meetings are not only still happening in London, but they are happening all over the world. Today, Scripture Union is sharing the love of Christ in over 130 countries with children, youth, and families. Through imaginative programs, outreaches, and publications, lives and communities are being changed and ignited with hope—and a passion to know God and His Word. The growth of Scripture Union has led to the development of curriculum and resources that are distributed throughout churches and parachurch organizations to provide programs for youth—from introducing them to Jesus, to helping them learn how to cultivate a vibrant, life-long relationship with Christ.

Scripture Union’s global teams partner with leaders around the world to make God’s Good News known to young people and families. They are committed to raising up indigenous leaders to ensure that the ministries happening in various countries are consistent with each specific culture. For example, the teams have developed specialized resources and initiatives that have been taken into schools and have been used with community programs for ‘at risk’ youth and young people with disabilities—in places as varied as Europe, Africa, America, Asia, and former Soviet Republics.

Tyndale House Foundation has gratefully supported the work of Scripture Union around the world since 1966. Through this partnership, Scripture Union in Fiji has been able to open a Christian bookstore. In Ghana, Bibles, devotionals, and reading plans have been distributed, and community-wide initiatives have led young people to Christ and helped them cultivate a discipline of reading God’s Word. In Latin America, pastors have been trained to teach and encourage their youth to read the Bible daily with intention and curiosity. Young lives all around the world have been impacted by the vision and work of Scripture Union!
