The Christian Booksellers Association (CBA) International Christian Retail Show was held in the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, June 26–29, 2016. CBA has hosted at least one convention per year since 1950. The UNITE theme “is a call to action for the industry to come together to fulfill the Great Commission of Matthew 28,” said CBA president Curtis Riskey. “Just as our mission is shared, so are our challenges. Our responsibility [to resolve these challenges] is not only to our customers, but also to one another and to our industry as a whole.” For decades, ICRS has combined elements of fellowship, ministry, and business to encourage and equip Christian product providers. It has also welcomed publishers, authors, agents, and retailers to engage with seminars, keynote speakers, and networking. This year, ICRS addressed industry changes that have been affecting the creation, production, and distribution of Christian media.
Mark Taylor, chairman and CEO of Tyndale House Publishers, participated in a panel called “Leadership in Disruption.” This general session seminar brought suppliers and retail leaders together to explore the latest data on Christian consumers and how they’re changing. Panelists explored seismic shifts that have been occurring in faith, business, and culture and advised attendees from personal experience.
Tyndale House Publishers hosted a booth on the exhibit floor to share its latest products and meet with media partners. About 40 Tyndale employees attended the show and benefitted from all it had to offer.
Dandi Daley Mackall, a Tyndale children’s author, signed Zacchaeus and Jesus, one of three books in her Flipside Stories series, at the booth. The signing was so popular that she ran out of books!
The key Scripture for UNITE 2016 was Romans 15:5-7, which says, “May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.” This Scripture coincides with Tyndale’s mission to minister to the spiritual needs of people, primarily through literature consistent with biblical principles. Tyndale is grateful for the connections made and is looking forward to more shows in the years to come!
