Product Description

On June 19, 2001, Ryan Corbin, grandson of Pat Boone, accidently stepped through a skylight and fell three stories onto a cement floor. When he broke through that roof, Ryan fell into a very different life from the one he had before as the beloved son of Lindy Boone Michaelis and first grandson of entertainment icon Pat Boone. As Ryan lingered between life and death in intensive care at UCLA Medical Center, Pat and Lindy decided to take action, in a big way; they went on Larry King Live, shared their faith, and asked millions of TV viewers to pray for Ryan. And so, they prayed. Heaven Hears is an unbelievable story of answered prayer—and it’s not over yet. This book will inspire you to look for answers to prayer and to see God’s miracles.

“Maybe God would heal Ryan – but I had no guarantees. Maybe the doctors could keep him alive and make him well – but I really didn’t know. All I did know was that God loved Ryan, God was with Ryan, and God was with the doctors,” Lindy Boone Michaelis pours out her heart in her book, "Heaven Hears." This emotional paperback has one hundred and seventy-seven pages with a forward by Michaelis’s father, Pat Boone, and an afterword by her sister, Debby Boone, as the writer explains the horrific accident of her twenty-four year old son falling through a three-story skylight to the ground. With italicized sections of her personal journal during the tragedy, the story is targeted to those who look towards God’s grace, love and faithfulness through prayer when given one of the most daunting tasks in life: dealing with the possible death or disability of a loved one. After an introduction being interviewed by Larry King and the first chapter quickly explaining how her first born son, Ryan, was injured while the writer, her husband and young son were in Spain, the beginning of the book reverts back to Michaelis being raised by the well-known entertainer, her college days, first marriage years that produced two children and meeting her current husband and their son’s birth. Fifty pages into the book, Ryan’s childhood, personality, spiritual growth and wedding engagement are told with fondness and sweetness. With minor repetition, the accident is told in detail, describing how close to death the young man came with skull and jaw fractures, a spleen that had burst, collapsed lungs, cracked ribs, a possible spinal cord injury and his heart stopping twice. After receiving thirty-six pints of blood, being in a coma for months, dealing with storming and infections, Ryan slowly comes back to life and leaves the hospital after ten months to face a life of challenging physical and mental disabilities. Behind the scenes of the medical trauma and minor health advances, the reader is drawn into Michaelis’s reliance and faith in God through prayer, constant family support, and being able to witness to millions by being interviewed by Larry King five times, each time asking for worldwide prayer. One not only feels the loving mother’s angst and heartbreak for her injured son, but sees how God has a purpose in all things, yet we cannot understand why. As the Bible states “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose,” this book is a reminder that Ryan is a living testimony that Christ has a purpose for him being here today.
