As a late-comer to this series, I first picked up the original Left Behind book #1, read the first few paragraphs and was not interested in a married christian man thinking about an affair with a co-worker. Well, fastforward about 4 years and I started reading them like I couldn't get enough to drink. I patiently waited for books 8 to 12 as each came out. In the meanwhile, I had discovered at the local Family Christian Stores that this was available as a radio drama. I quickly purchased and listened to them also. If you have a vivid imagination and would like to get the full essence of this series, I highly recommend the Dramatic Audio of this series. I found them engaging, entertaining, I laughed and cried with these characters who became like friends, who were sending me tapes of what was going on in their lives. Mr's Jenkins and LaHaye did a wonderful job with the core material (unabridged books) and the folks at the Dramatic Audio team did a fabulous job bringing the characters to life, giving voice, feelings and depth to the written words. Bravo to all involved.
