Kingdom Couples Resolve Anger

Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil and opportunity. Ephesians 4:26-27

A man once bragged about his marriage, saying: “In our marriage, my wife and I have decided to never go to bed angry. We haven’t been to sleep in three weeks!” ¹  

Unfortunately, too many couples look like they were married by the secretary of war instead of the justice of the peace.

Anger at sin is valid.  Scripture tells us that the Lord is angry at the wicked people every day (Psalm 7:11; Romans 1:18). If wrong has been done against you, you have every right to be angry. But what you do not have the right to do is to let your anger go unresolved, or to sin in your anger. The prolonged buildup of anger in a marriage often allows Satan to use the steering wheel to turn a problem into a stronghold.  Anger that has been allowed to accumulate over time—anger that you have chosen not to address or chosen not to seek help dealing with—will open the door for spiritual warfare to wreak havoc on your home.

Prayer
God, please help us to recognize where forgiveness is needed in our marriage and give us the courage to resolve our anger. Amen.
