My 83-year-old brother was in darkness, blinded from the truth by Satan. For many years I had prayed for him, loving him and sharing my faith with him, and only experiencing disappointment in the results. Last Christmas, my gift to Al was More Than a Carpenter. He read it, and his eyes and heart were opened to the truth. Since Christmas he has read completely through the Bible and is continuing to study the Scriptures. Al’s heart and life have been wonderfully changed! He is now sharing his faith with relatives and friends. He has since passed along his copy of the book to a friend with whom he wanted to share the truth. Thanks to your book, my brother is truly shining for Christ in a whole new way.
Although I have always wanted to have a firm faith in God and Jesus, many doubts continued to haunt me ever since I was in college 30 years ago. I found it difficult to reconcile faith with modern science and history. I started reading books on religion, faith, intelligent design, and apologetics. I was able to find books that helped me realize there really is a Personal God who cares about us. I was finally able to reconcile faith and science.
Now it was time to answer my questions about Jesus. It was then that I found your book, More Than a Carpenter. This book was able to provide many of the answers I needed to solidify my faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior and to answer most of my questions about Him.
You and your books have been like a pastor to me in my hour of need. Now I want to share my faith with others, to help people in need overcome doubts about God and Jesus that they may have.
I am an attorney who has spent most of my life trying to prove to myself that Jesus is who He said He was. When I read Mr. McDowell's book More Than a Carpenter, it was a defining moment in my life. I truly believed, and that felt so good.
I am an inmate here at the Division of Correction. I am serving a one-year sentence. . . . I am writing this letter in reference to your book More Than a Carpenter. That little book has done more for me than all of the other books I have ever read combined! My grandfather had always told me what I needed was a real revelation of just who Jesus really was and is. I never really understood just what he meant. But after reading your book, I now realize just what he meant. Your book cleared up doubts that I knew I had and some I didn’t even know of that existed inside of me.
I got down on my knees here in my cell, and I cried and begged for the Lord to come into my heart and change me from head to toe. He has and is. That book should have come with a warning label on it saying “The more you know, the more you are accountable for.†After one reads that book, there is no more excuse for unbelief.
I am a living example of the church losing its youth. After being one of the youth leaders in my church, and my mother thinking I might become a pastor, I left the church for over 20 years after graduating from high school. Even though I eventually started attending a church, my relationship with Jesus did not get established until I read your book More Than a Carpenter. I am so grateful that God gave you this wonderful gift for reaching lost souls like me.
I was in high school the first time that I received a copy of this handily packaged little book.
It is full of the truth of who Jesus is and tells the reader the important faucets of the Christian faith while still staying relatable to the average young person.
Since reading this book, I have begun leading a College/Career Group (in my church) and am now beginning a new Young Adult Ministry/Outreach Service in hopes of reaching the younger generation in the Washington State area.
Since working with these young adults, I have used More Than a Carpenter as my primary evangelism tool. I’ve given nearly 100 of these books to various “skeptics†that I meet, and I’ll spend a month or so walking each of them through the book. I can’t even begin to tell you what an impact this book has made. I’ve seen many people in my current C/C group really grow in their faith and have seen many more give their lives to Christ after seeing the evidence that your book lays out. Just last night, I had the privilege to lead one more person to Christ after giving him this book.
I really like your book, More Than a Carpenter. Through your book you have led many people to Christ. My class and I have really enjoyed your book. It has led me into deeper thought of Christ and will help me with future encounters with non-Christians.
I have learned a lot of important information from your classic book More Than a Carpenter. Thank you for testing my faith in Jesus Christ.
Thank you for sharing a copy of your book with me. I feel doubly blessed! Just a few weeks ago, I shared one of your arguments from More Than a Carpenter with a Muslim friend. She was sharing about how Jesus was one of their “prophets,†and I asked her to think about the fact that if Jesus wasn’t who He said He was, He was a deceiver, a liar, or mad, and therefore certainly not someone to be revered as a prophet.
She seemed to be puzzled by this line of thought and didn’t really know how to respond. After she took some time to think about this, she began to open up in a whole new way that she had never done before. Rather than being completely closed off to anything that I had to say, she began to listen and interact, and I pray that a seed was planted! Thank you for allowing God to use you to bring others to Him. And thank you for your words of appreciation. I’m going to enjoy using your book!
