History of our Publications

Church Around the World

In 1970, Dr. Ken Taylor created his first periodical, called The Church Around the World, which was designed to fit into church bulletins. His goal was to make Christians more aware of the Lord’s work all over the world, in hopes that it would make them more prayerful and would increase their giving. Dr. Taylor sent sample copies with order cards to thousands of pastors, many of whom responded warmly. The monthly subscription grew, and by Christmas of 1976 Tyndale was mailing out more than a million copies of the little news sheet each month. This circulation has continued ever since.

Missions, persecution, church splits, and controversies . . . do you know what Christians are facing around the globe? The Church Around the World bulletin is an ideal way to keep you and your congregation informed on the worldwide developments that affect the work of the church. This bulletin offers timely news about issues that matter and helps church leaders and lay members alike become more aware of how God’s people are making a difference around the globe and how they can get more involved.

More than two hundred thousand people per month already enjoy reading The Church Around the World. Join them and find out more about the body of Christ and your own place in it.

Have a Good Day

Looking for a creative and easy way to share the gospel? Well, then Have a Good Day was made for you. Have a Good Day was first published in May 1968. It is not an ordinary gospel tract: Funny stories, odd events, curious feats, and quaint cartoons—all designed to make the reader smile—fill the first three pages. The back page has an interesting, solid presentation of the Good News of Christ. We think of it as a “nontract tract”—a tract in its purpose and result, but not in its format. As a result, even timid Christians can give it away. No one is offended by being handed an attractive pamphlet called Have a Good Day.

Described by one of our subscribers as “a very useful and non-pushy way to share the gospel,” Have a Good Day is a tool for evangelism that is read and enjoyed by both Christians and non-Christians.

Creative readers find many uses for the two hundred thousand copies of Have a Good Day ordered each month—from including them in their church bulletins and children’s ministry newsletters to sending them out with personal correspondence to distributing them at hospitals and nursing homes to leaving them along with the tip at restaurants.

Have a Good Day has been making people smile and look to Jesus for fifty years.

Focus on The Family Bulletin

In 1987, Mark Taylor, who had succeeded his father as president of Tyndale House, met with Bob Screen, a marketing consultant at Focus on the Family. Bob asked if Tyndale had ever thought of publishing a bulletin insert with content drawn from the vast resources of Focus on the Family. It was a natural partnership, since Tyndale House had already published four bestsellers by Dr. James Dobson, the founder and president of Focus on the Family. Mark responded, “No, we have never thought of doing that. But I’m sure thinking about it now.”

Within a few months the concept had been finalized, and the first issue of Dr. James Dobson’s Focus on The Family Bulletin was published in February 1988. It quickly became the bestseller among the Tyndale bulletin inserts, and it has enjoyed circulation in excess of three million copies per month for many years. Today it continues under the shorter title Focus on The Family Bulletin. The bulletin will mark thirty years in print in February 2018.

Focus on the Family’s global Christian ministry is dedicated to helping families thrive in today’s world. Focus on The Family Bulletin is a publication designed to do just that. Each four-page bulletin features articles by respected family experts, coaches, and counselors eager to meet the needs of parents and their children. More than seven hundred thousand monthly readers are kept informed about current events that affect the family and ways to get involved.

Glimpses

Who was Dietrich Bonhoeffer? What paved the way for the first complete Bible in English? And why did the evangelical revival in England take place?

The Glimpses of Christian History bulletin insert is written and designed to answer questions like these, while showing readers the richness of church history and making it come alive. Each issue teaches people how Christian figures from history, both famous and not-so-famous, and the cultural events that occurred around them continue to influence the church today.

Each four-page bulletin focuses on a single topic—from well-known hymns and literary works to religious revivals to famous men and women of the faith. Written in easy-to-understand and accessible language, Glimpses of Christian History helps the average churchgoer understand how Christianity has impacted every facet of the world—and continues to do so today.
