Reflection #8

I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room, I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to me.
Matthew 25:35-36 The Message

At the end of my writing project, my editor and I were working non-stop. My husband was out of town and I let the answering machine take the phone calls. Once a day, I stopped and listened for our messages. My heart froze when I heard one caller. I heard this dear woman’s voice asking me to phone her back—nothing important, she just wanted to visit. I have never met this lady, but we have nurtured a special relationship conversing on the phone.

The reason I “sighed” when I heard her voice on the machine was time. Whenever we talk, we tend to have rather lengthy conversations. I cried to the Lord, “I don’t have time to speak with this friend right now. You know how hard I’m working and every minute counts! This project is important.”

The Lord’s answer, “Cynthia, this person is precious in My sight, and your calling her is just as much a ministry to Me as your writing.”

Have I ever been carried away to do something for God not because it was my duty, nor because it was useful, nor because there was anything in it at all beyond the fact that I love Him?...Not divine, colossal things which could be recorded as marvelous, but ordinary, simple human things which will give evidence to God that I am abandoned to Him? Oswald Chambers

Love in Christ,
