  • ABC’s “Final Witness” Pilot to Feature True Story Told in Tyndale’s Terror By Night

On Wednesday, June 27, the pilot episode of ABC’s television program “Final Witness” will air the true story first related in Tyndale’s 2009 release Terror by Night by Terry Caffey with James Pence. The author is scheduled to be interviewed on Good Morning America and The View that same day, and Nightline on June 26.

Terror by Night describes the events of March 1, 2008, when Terry Caffey awoke at 3:00 am to find his daughter’s former boyfriend standing in his bedroom with a gun. An instant later the teen and an accomplice opened fire, killing Terry’s wife, his two sons and wounding him multiple times, before setting the house ablaze. Terry was able to escape the house and crawl 400 yards to the neighbor’s house for help, knowing he would never see his family again.

In 2009 Tyndale House Publishers published Caffey’s memoir, written with James Pence, the incredible true story of a modern day Job who lost everything but through faith in God has seen his life restored.

After losing his family and learning of his daughter Erin’s involvement in the crime, Terry fell into deep depression and planned to kill himself, but God intervened. Upon visiting his burned out property, Terry noticed a scorched scrap of paper from one of his wife’s books, Blind Sight.
That page felt like a direct message from God, and it turned Terry’s life around. Terry is now remarried, the adoptive father of two young sons, and working to rebuild his relationship with his 17-year-old daughter, who is currently serving two life sentences in a Texas state penitentiary for her involvement in the crimes.

I met Terry and Sonja Caffey at a dinner for Pastors and Deacons in Terrell, Tx.. At that time my husband purchased Terror By Night for me to read. It is such a gripping story that brings you right to the edge, where I realized that everyday I have a face to face encounter with God and it is up to me to choose what direction I will take from there. I pray that those who read it will find God in every paragraph…I have several family members that have borrowed it and read it, and we feel a connection with Terry because of his pain, survival and understanding of God’s sovereignty and power.

I read Terror By Night on my Verizon tablet and it is one of the most inspiring and moving books I have ever read. You won’t want to put it down. I was able to meet Terry Caffey when he spoke at my church and he is as humble and real as he is portrayed in his book. His book proves God is with us in anything we may face, and Terry is an excellent example of faith in God. James Pence is an excellent author.

I bought the book at one of Terry’s speakings and read it, and I hate to read! I read the book in two days and when i finished the book i loaned it out to friends to read. One of my friends daughters took the book to Nicaragua on a Mission trip. The book was used in part of the mission trip. I asked her for the book when she got back and it had gotten lost between there and here, so now i am with out the book!! I pray that Terry and his family continue to do their work for God and many lives get saved from his testimony!!!

I read “Terror By Night” when it first came out. It was a very bittersweet, hard book to read. Penny and Terry and their children were/are very very good friends of my family and me. Terry and Penny were my children’s youth ministers and they were so very close to my children and me. Erin and Amber, (my daughter) were more like sisters than friends. And Tyler and Bubba were the sweetest, most polite young boys ever!
When I was reading this book, It was like I was there. Everyone mentioned, I know. And everyone that knows or have ever met Terry Caffey KNOWS that he is a man of God. I feel so blessed to even know anyone like Terry. He is such a wonderful man with a heart as big as Texas! I thank my Lord that Terry is spreading the word and still working with youth. I am so happy that Terry was blessed again with yet again, another wonderful beautiful wife Sonya and 2 sons.
This book is a MUST READ and I recommend it to everyone!

‘Terror By Night’ is an awesome book and a must-read! It has all of the elements that make it unforgettable and life changing. It is a true story – I have known Terry for years and I knew the family that he lost. Terry tells his story with so much truthfulness, honesty, and emotion. You will grieve, cry… and laugh at the humorous parts. Most importantly, Terry has allowed God to turn the devastating tragedy into a tremendous testimony that is inspiring to others who are experiencing difficult times, and his example of forgiveness encourages others to find forgiveness in their own lives. Many lost souls have found salvation in Jesus Christ through Terry’s amazing story. I highly recommend this book!

I read “Terror By Night”. It is the most inspiring book I have ever read. It is so well written, and is hard to lay down before finishing it. I have learned so much about foregiveness and the amazing way that God uses His children to help others. Terry Caffey is definatley a “modern day Job”.
