For Immediate Release
May 1, 2008
Carol Stream, Ill. – Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices & Priorities of a Winning Life, the No. 1 New York Times best-selling memoir by Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy, will be released in trade softcover on June 1. The softcover edition includes a brand-new chapter that updates readers on the 2007 season and Dungy’s decision to continue coaching. Written by Dungy with Nathan Whitaker and published by Tyndale House Publishers, there are currently more than 1,000,000 copies of the hardcover in print, making it one of the best-selling hardcover sports-related books in history. The new softcover edition will have a $14.99 suggested retail price.
“I heard from so many people who read Quiet Strength and told me that they wanted to pass it on to others,” said Dungy. “The new softcover version has an additional chapter that covers the 2007 season, as well as the impact that the book has had. With a lower price than the hardcover, I am hopeful that the paperback version will get into the hands of even more people.”
The hardcover version of Quiet Strength debuted at No. 2 on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction list on July 29, 2007, and moved to the top spot one week later. It reached the top spot on the list on two different occasions and spent 25 weeks in the top 10, the most weeks in history for a sports-related title. According to Publishers Weekly, it was the eleventh best-selling hardcover nonfiction book released in 2007.
“We are very excited about the response to Quiet Strength,” said Doug Knox, Senior Publisher at Tyndale House Publishers. “It’s a hit with football fans, with its inside look at the NFL. But more than that, Tony Dungy challenges readers to consider what is really most important in life, and then inspires them to pursue a life of faith and purpose with fire and gusto. Many people are finding that Quiet Strength is a life-changing book and are buying copies for friends and family. The softcover edition will be in stores just in time for Father’s Day gift giving. More information is available at www.coachdungy.com.”
In addition to the success of Dungy’s Quiet Strength, Tyndale House Publishers recently had another football-related hit on its hands with Deanna Favre’s Don’t Bet Against Me! The memoir by Favre, wife of Green Bay Packers great Brett Favre, spent 10 consecutive weeks on either the New York Times hardcover nonfiction primary list (top 15) or expanded list (top 35). It is now in its eighth printing, with more than 200,000 copies in print. Tyndale will release The Winners Manual: For the Game of Life by Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel on Tuesday, July 15.
